Your month-end crunch is a design choice, not a law of nature

Month-End Close in one page: a nine-panel guide with the goal (close in fewer days), the five steps (match every day, AI drafts the accruals, variance comments written, one set of numbers, measure the hours), a close checklist and a first 30 days plan. All figures are examples.

Your month-end crunch is a design choice, not a law of nature. Here is your guide to ending it with AI:

Every month the same week disappears. Matching, chasing figures, rebuilding the same report. Most of it is work AI can do overnight, while your team sleeps.

  • Thinking you need a new ERP before anything changes.
  • You start on the systems you already have.

The guide, in the order I'd do it:

  1. Match every day, not once a month. Bank lines, invoices and payments reconciled overnight. Your team only sees what doesn't match.
  2. Let AI draft the accruals. From your own contracts and history. The controller approves them. The machine never posts on its own.
  3. Get the variance comments written for you. "Why did freight jump in March?" comes back with the figures behind it, ready to edit.
  4. Close on one set of numbers. Pulled straight from your systems, so nobody rebuilds the report by hand.
  5. Measure the days. Close days and team hours, before and after. That's the number that proves it worked.

I learned this rebuilding the reporting behind a large capital project. Same people, 90% less time to produce the executive reports.

You can do all five yourself. Most finance teams don't, for one reason: nobody has the time to build it while also closing the month.

That's the part we take on at Halcyon Pryce. We build these five steps on your own systems, your team approves every step, and the first piece runs on a real close within a month.

There's a free assessment at halcyonpryce.com: three minutes, and a 4-page report on what your close costs today and which step pays first.

Which step would give your team the most time back?
